The Retailer’s Quick Guide To Buying Rugs
In this VHC Brands products post, we are going to go from big to small in our rug talk; we will start with our biggest rugs and finish with our smallest – but crazy-popular – rugs. First, let’s do a quick overview of our largest area rugs. 60x96” rectangle and 60x96” oval rugs are wide enough to set the stage for an average-width couch, which is typically 83-86”. A large rug for the living area is properly scaled when it is wider than the couch, and is also placed under the front of the couch. Depending on what you have to work with in regarding room size, anything from “barely” under the couch, to almost under the back legs, is appropriate. Our largest round rug is 96” diameter: meaning a very large circle, 8 feet across by 8 feet across. Our next largest rugs are perfect as smaller sitting room or living room rugs, but are also purchased as kitchen rugs for the breakfast nook or casual dining area. 6' diameter rugs measure 72” across by 72” across, while we also have 48”x72” oval and rectangle sizes. The 48”x72” size is also great under a countertop bar seating area. Defining your kitchen zones with rugs is a great way to segment the open-plan dining/kitchen spaces so popular today.
We offer a large variety of 36”x60” rugs in rectangle and oval shapes. This size is perfect for kitchen work zones, but is equally popular as a bedroom rug on either side of the bed, or at the foot of the bed. If you have wood, laminate or hard surface floors in the bedroom, it’s always nice to step onto a throw rug when getting in and out of bed, since the rug is softer and warmer than the hard flooring. Many of our rugs are latex backed so slippage on hard surfaces is minimized. However, we still recommend a rug pad for all our jute rug, cotton rug, and braided rug products.
